The Saskatchewan Co-operative Association (SCA) is currently accepting applications for a CreateAction Work Experience Program Intern position. The focus of this six-month placement will be on improving SCA’s sustainability practices and supporting co-operatives and community groups interested in developing environmentally sustainable enterprises.
This job position is part of CreateAction, the Canadian CED Network Work Experience Program, funded by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
Work Term: October 4, 2010 to March 18, 2010
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Research, design & implement an online registration & payment process for SCA & SCYP’s websites
- Facilitate, support & promote the co-operative business model to develop co-operatives with local community groups
- Design, write & edit co-operative profiles for use in SCA’s newsletter The Co-operative Spotlight & website
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong experience with the following:
- Excellent organization abilities, time management skills & the ability to multitask
- Skillful research abilities with various types of research including online
- The ability to work independently as well as be part of a team
- Strong communication skills – both written & oral
- Proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications is necessary & Adobe InDesign, Dreamweaver, Contribute, & website design would be beneficial
- Well developed public speaking & facilitation ability
- Mature, professional, energetic & enthusiastic personality
- Knowledge & experience in the non-profit/community economic development/ co-operative sector in Saskatchewan
Criteria / Qualifications:
- Between the ages of 15 & 30 inclusively at the time of selection
- A Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration & Refugee Protection Act
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial and/or territorial legislation & regulations
- Not registered in school, & must have a post-secondary college or university undergraduate degree
- Not receiving Employment Insurance benefits
- Can demonstrate a lack of labour market attachment to field of study (under-employed or unemployed)
- Can demonstrate that working in the field of community economic development is a career goal
- Has not previously participated in a Career Focus work experience placement
