Summary
The WRENCH is a newly established non-profit organization that has developed out of a partnership between individuals, community groups, and the City of Winnipeg. We envision a city where people of all ages, genders, ethnicities and economic backgrounds are empowered to build, maintain, and use bicycles.
Our mission is to make bicycles and cycling accessible to the public by providing programming, education and resources for community members and organizations while supporting new and existing community bike shops.
The WRENCH is seeking a Programming Director to oversee and manage programming and day to day operations of The WRENCH.
Term Position: November 1, 2010 - October 31, 2011 (dependent on funding)
Role and Responsibilities:
- Conduct outreach with schools, youth groups, community organizations, cycling groups and media
- Develop programming in consultation with staff, board of directors and stakeholders
- Deliver programming as needed
- Develop educational resource materials
- Recruit and supervise contract workshop facilitators
- Seek out funding opportunities and write grant proposals
- Prepare project reports and attend monthly board meetings
- Develop organizational and workshop space policies
- Budget creation and management
- Volunteer management
- Administrative and office management duties as required
Qualifications:
- Ability to self-direct, prioritize and meet deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal communication and conflict management skills
- Experience working with non-profit/community organizations and boards
- Project management from conceptual design to final assessment
- Experience with bike repair and familiarity with community bike shops and other local cycling organizations
- Awareness and sensitivity to issues of marginalization (sexism, racism, classism) and cultural diversity
- Understanding of community economic development principles
- Experience working with Aboriginal and newcomer communities
- Experience working with youth and knowledge of community based youth serving organizations
- Experience building consensus within and between organizations
The successful candidate will be required to complete a child abuse registry check and a criminal record check.
