DMSMCA is a non-profit community renewal organization. We work with residents and stakeholders towards social, cultural, economic and environmentally sustainable renewal and revitalization of the Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews neighbourhoods.


Job Objectives and Responsibilities:

The Compost Coordinator, in collaboration with the Greening and Environment Coordinator, oversees the development and implementation of the DMSMCA Compost Programme, including conducting workshops, building networks with community stakeholders and maintaining the compost pick up program.


Job Responsibilities:

The Compost Coordinator will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Promote composting in the Daniel McIntyre/St Matthews neighbourhoods through awareness raising, workshops & business contact.
  • Maintain and develop composting programme with ten area businesses
    • Collect waste daily, record amount of waste collected from each business
    • Troubleshoot with businesses, make regular improvements to the program
    • Maintain community compost sites at a high level
  • Prepare compost/leaf drop off sites for the year, support maintenance, and promote neighbourhood use throughout the year
  • Make finished compost available to local gardeners
  • Evaluate the program, develop a plan for program continuance


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Good knowledge of the composting process
  • Experience working with businesses
  • Experience with waste audits
  • Experience with community programming/organizing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of inner city issues and familiarity with the DMSM area
  • Experience with power tools and construction would be an asset
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Can work individually as well as cooperatively, inclusively and effectively with others
  • Confidence winter cycling is a must
     

Hours of Work:

Up to 15 hours/week; some evening and weekend hours required. This is a one year part-time position. Continuation of the position depends on funding availability.
