Summary:

Food Matters Manitoba is seeking a part-time Bookkeeper, 6 month term position with opportunity for ongoing contract, 8 hours per week November to December and 16 to 24 hours per week January to April 2011, starting at $16 per hour. The Bookkeeper will assist the Executive Director with the financial activities of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the executive director, the successful applicant will work with the project staff and board volunteers to:

  • Process cheques, deposits, credit card payments, bills and invoices
  • Data entry of all accounts receivables and account payables
  • Payroll and related activities
  • Maintain petty cash and floats for events
  • Maintain appropriate files, records, and statistical data
  • Work with auditor to complete audited financials and charitable income tax
  • Provide project and financials reports to the Executive Director, Board, and Funders as required
  • Maintain and create project budgets
  • Attend board meetings and take meeting minutes
  • Assist with other projects and tasks when required


Qualifications:

The successful applicant will be/have:

  • Previous bookkeeping experience
  • Highly organized with proven attention to detail
  • Self motivated and a team player
  • Able to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Able to work flexible hours
  • Able to exercise independent judgment but work well as part of a team
  • Knowledge of and experience working with Simply Accounting
  • High level of computer and internet knowledge especially Word, Excel, and Access
  • Knowledge of charitable guidelines and requirements is an asset
  • An interest in food security and community development is an asset
