Children's Health and Environment Parternship of Manitoba (CHEP) is an affiliation of Manitoba organizations working to catalyze cross-sectoral collaboration and sharing of resources and expertise toward the promotion of children's environmental health. The Partnership is currently in its 3rd year.
Job Duties
Administrative:
- Work collaboratively with members of the Coordinating Committee to develop strategic direction and planning for Year 4 and beyond of the Children's Health & Environment Partnership;
- Seeking out funding opportunities and prepare proposals/grant applications;
- Maintain and update contact lists;
- Organize meetings for the coordinating committee usually monthly;
- Prepare monthly progress reports to Partners;
- Assess impact of CHEP work and author interim/final reports to funders.
Communications:
- Update website regularly by adding news, events and relevant content;
- Compile and distribute quarterly e-newsletter;
- Write brief articles on CEH and seek out opportunities for publishing in community media;
- Promote and distribute social marketing Toolkit widely;
- Speak at events or to media, where appropriate and required.
'Project Management:'
- Coordinate capacity building activities on children's environmental health for target groups including service providers, parents, and families;
- Preliminary planning for a CEH gathering in the Fall;
- Ongoing contact with Health Child Manitoba Office and WRHA; maintain and develop our established relationships with other groups in the community;
- Other project related work as directed.
Required Skills and Attribute
- A strong interest in and knowledge of environmental health, especially pertaining to children and a developed understanding of health promotion;
- Excellent written and oral communications, including facilitation and presentation skills;
- Experience with preparing funding proposals;
- High comfort level with website management (and/or demonstrated ability to learn this);
- Event organization and project management experience;
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and be accountable for deliverables and budget;
- Collaborative personality, good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently;
- Entrepreneurial skills including the desire to create new ideas, synthesize ideas, take initiative, think critically, and explore new ways of doing things.
Qualifications
- An undergraduate degree from a recognized institution. Studies in the field of environmental studies, health, organizational development, project management, community development or other related field an asset. Masters degree is an asset.
- Education and/or experience in creating, developing, facilitating, managing, evaluating and/or coordinating capacity building initiatives an asset.
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience. Experience related to project management, program development, community building, and other related areas an asset.
- Experience in having developed or managed new projects an asset, including having collaborated across sectors and organizations to pull in different people and ideas.
Terms of Employment
- 5 months (November 1, 2010 - March 31, 2011) with a strong possibility of extension pending funding information
- 21 hours per week @ $20 per hour
- This position will be housed within the office of CHEP Partner, the Manitoba Eco-Network
