Community Economic Development in Ottawa – It’s More than Business as Usual

You are here

Date:
21 October, 2010

In celebration of Small Business Week in Canada, Causeway is hosting an event that celebrates and recognizes economic development in Ottawa by focusing on the important role that community economic development (CED) is playing in our city. We would like to invite you to participate in this celebration, which will take place on October 21, 2010 from 12:30pm – 1:30pm.

Over 150 individuals including community leaders and members, corporate and NGO representatives, politicians, media, and Causeway staff, board and clients have been invited. The event will feature short presentations from a cross-section of CED stakeholders. Speakers for the Open House include: Mike Toye of the Canadian CED Network, Ian Scott from the City of Ottawa, Brenda Richardson representing the Collaborative for Innovative Social Enterprise Development (CISED), and Yasir Naqvi, our Provincial Member of Parliament. The Open House will also feature presentations by social enterprise practitioners and employees who will give a personal glimpse into this unique business model.

With growing interest and awareness of social enterprise, corporate and community social responsibility, and the importance of sustainable development, this event is an ideal platform to showcase how various stakeholders are supporting and participating in community-based economic development.

Refreshments will be provided by Krackers Katering. Please join us in celebrating CED in Ottawa during Small Business Week.
