New Comer Outreach Worker

Spence Neighbourhood Association is looking for a New Comer outreach coordinator for the youth program for 13-18 year olds in the Spence Community. This is a full time position (37.5 hours a week). Wage will be determined according to relevant experience, between $14-$15/hour.


Job Description:

The New comer outreach worker will be responsible for recruiting and supporting new comer youth to attend our youth program and support those already attending. The youth program runs Monday to Friday 6:30 to 9:30. This position would work closely as a co-coordinator with the youth program coordinator, and Weekend program coordinator to enhance and support new comers in programming. The outreach worker would support in new comer integration into youth programming at the MERC


The Application:

  • Must have experience organizing programming for 13-18 year olds.
  • Must have experience working with new comer youth
  • Must have education or training in coaching, teaching or recreational programming.
  • Must be able to provide clear direction and feed back to volunteers, youth participants and green team youth assistants.
  • Must have an in depth understanding of inner city communities and the issues facing new comer youth
  • Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Must enjoy team work and be willing to assist other youth program leaders.
  • Must be able to provide a current criminal record check and child registry check
  • Must be able to work afternoons/evenings
  • Current First aid and CPR training and Drivers Licence are assets.
  • Experience in coaching sports or supervisory experiences are assets.
  • Creativity and ambition an asset


Duties include:

  • Advertising the programming to households in the community, out reaching to schools and other locations where new comer youth attend.
  • Providing supports and resources to new comer youth
  • Finding ways to build belonging – connecting new comer youth to the community, the people in their community and helping them play a role in making it a positive place to live through the programming.
  • Support youth program five days a week
  • Keeping record of and reporting monthly on volunteer hours, attendance and activities
