2011 Regional Conferences

In 2011, CCEDNet is partnering with the Chantier de l'économie sociale for the International Forum on the Social and Solidarity Economy that will be held in Montréal, Oct 17-20.  For this reason, we will not be holding our own national conference in 2011.

But this year, inspired by the success of the Manitoba Gathering, regional events are being organized across the country.

Check out the list for regional event here.

Operation Come Home

Operation Come Home, (OCH) opened its doors in 1971 to assist runaway youth across Canada to return home to their families. Operation Come Home has more than 5,000 contacts with at risk and homeless youth per year and provides services to 225+ locally and 100+ nationally. This year OCH will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary. In 2002, Operation Come Home began to diversify its services by offering programming locally in the city of Ottawa due to the fact that many homeless youth could not return home. In 2009, Operation Come Home changed its name to better articulate its vision and mission to the community.

Operation Come Home prevents homeless youth from becoming homeless adults. The way in which OCH accomplishes this mission is by providing unique and innovative programs and services to at risk and homeless youth. Operation Come Home provides six pillars of programming: employment; education; resources; outreach; housing and reunite. The employment pillar includes 2 social enterprises, BottleWorks and BeadWorks. BottleWorks is a commercial recycling and bottle pick up business. BeadWorks is a jewelry design and production business. OCH recently moved to a new location in the center of the city. The new location will provide sufficient space for a new social enterprise that will operate as an art studio and retail storefront for youth to design and craft “works of art” to be sold to the general public.

Operation Come Home operates a high school, the job action centre, a farming and culinary project: food matters, a wellness and recreation program: health matters, a drop in and resource centre, street outreach, financial literacy, housing and our original mandate which is to assist runaway youth to return home to their families.

Network Evaluation: Cultivating Healthy Networks for Social Change

Networks are popping up everywhere in the social change sector. Many of us have invested time and resources in our networks on the assumption that they are important vehicles to advance our goals.

But how do we know if our networks are really working?

And what can we do to improve their performance?

The Centre for Social Innovation and the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation are proud to release their publication, Network Evaluation: Cultivating Health Networks for Social Change. This imaginative book explores the unique character of networks and offers a new framework for assessing and improving their impact. Its goal: to further empower the success of networks that are making a difference.
