About Project Makoonsag:

The purpose of Project Makoonsag is to provide a place for intergenerational learning where everyone from the very young to the very old can learn together.  Urban Circle Training Centre in partnership with the staff and students of the U of M’s Inner City Social Work Program, Red River College, U of W’s Urban and Inner City Studies Program and North End Community Renewal Corporation are planning the implementation of this project.

To date this partnership has raised $1.7 million of the $2.3 million budget including $870,000 from the Province of Manitoba, $200,000 from the Federal government, $68,100 from the City of Winnipeg and $271,000 from a number of foundations and private donors. The design of the building and exterior space is complete and construction to begin early in 2011 with occupancy targeted for the fall of 2011.

The project still requires approximately $600,000 to start construction of the day care site. Each $1 contribution will make a difference for this project. The day care also needs to raise funds for additional items including a washer/dryer, a fridge, freezer, stove, furnishings like rocking chairs, comfortable armchairs and couches, end tables, bookcases, tables, chairs, water tables, sand tables, books, creative toys, and tricycles.
