Position Details:
- Full-time employment (37.5 hr/wk) for a 22-week co-op internship
- Salary: $15/hr
Primary Responsibilities:
To assist with knowledge mobilization activities related to the travelling component of a major museum exhibition of research results titled “Building Community: Creating Social and Economic Well-Being.”
To assist with public events such as seminars; to assist with collection of materials in support of research grant applications; to assist with other aspects of our communications strategy — e.g., website materials.
In addition, to provide the intern with career-related learning opportunities in the co-operative sector.
Nature of Work:
The successful applicant will report to the Centre’s Acting Director, Dr. Michael Gertler. The work will be mainly research based with a moderate degree of complexity. Working conditions include normal daytime hours at the Centre for the Study of Co-operatives (8:30 to 4:30). There is no shift work, expectations of overtime, or exposure to hazardous substances or situations.
Typical Duties:
- Familiarizing her/himself with the work and communications needs of the Centre for the Study of Cooperatives
- Familiarizing her/himself with the co-operative sector in Canada
- Familiarizing her/himself with the original “Building Community” exhibition via the online version
- Working with a designer to determine spatial requirements and limits on portable display units and how best to convert the original one hundred panels into three, easily transportable, travelling components
- Working with researchers regarding additional content and imagery to customize the exhibit for their region
- Assisting Centre staff in overseeing the design and production of the three travelling displays
- Preparing supporting materials such as interpretive information and workshop materials
- Working with provincial co-operative associations to co-ordinate travel arrangements for the exhibits; i.e., contacting communities, finding venues, arranging transportation and insurance
- Collecting materials in support of research grant applications
Qualifications:
Education: Applicants must be postsecondary college or university graduates; must not currently be in school; must not be receiving EI insurance; and must be in need of assistance in order to overcome employment barriers. They must be under 31 years of age; Canadian citizens or permanent residents or a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; legally entitled to work in Canada, in particular in Saskatchewan according to provincial legislation and regulations.
Experience: Applicants should have some hands-on experience in areas noted above, or in related activities, and good knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications. Some knowledge of the co-operative sector, and experience with website maintenance and communications strategies would be an asset.
Skills: Skills should be directly related to duties listed above. In addition, applicants should have effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and the ability to work independently but within a closeknit team environment.
