Reports to: Good Food Junction Co-operative board of directors
Position description:
The business development manager will work with a creative group of people to bring a grocery store back to Saskatoon’s 20th Street. This experienced and innovative individual will be responsible for coordinating, managing and implementing the final stage of Good Food Junction Co-operative’s development according to the strategic goals and objectives developed by the board of directors and the recently updated business plan. This is a part-time contract position to begin immediately with the possibility of evolution into the manager position.
Responsibilities:
Financing: Oversees fundraising planning and implementation (in close consultation with the Station 20 West fundraising team), including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals, meeting with potential funders/investors and administrating fundraising records and documentation.
Community and public relations: Assures the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in strong, positive images to relevant stakeholders. This includes ensuring that promotional materials and activities meet industry standards , advocating with the grocery industry, the City and potential funders on the viability of the GFJ and overseeing a membership and pledge campaign to bring the co-op’s membership to at least 750 and developing relationships with other co-ops, especially the Saskatoon retail grocery co-ops.
Store development: Works with architects, wholesaler, refrigeration firm, Station 20 West co-locators and others as needed to oversee design and development of the physical store, to set up infrastructure needed to begin operation, and to develop risk management strategies. This will include advising the board on meat procurement options.
Board support: Supports board development and governance by preparing appropriate reports to advising and inform board members on business development risks and opportunities and enable them to make sound decisions on business matters.
Required experience:
- 5 years management experience in the retail food sector
- Success securing start-up capital for a mid-sized venture
- Collaborative work with a variety of stakeholders in a community setting
- Knowledge and experience of co-operatives and alternative business models
- Experience operating under the direction of a board of directors
