About the Good Food Club:

The Good Food Club (GFC) creates food security and supports local skills development and employment in West Broadway and the inner city. The GFC uses a capacity-building approach to food insecurity by providing opportunities for members to participate in local food systems, build skills and employment experience. The focus is on low income people, however membership is open to all. Activities include farm trips, veggie van market, community cafes, community kitchens and good food boxes.

Position Description:

The Good Food Club Coordinator administers the Good Food Club program: including
promotions, membership mobilization and recruitment, volunteer organizing, program
delivery, teaching food handling and nutrition, capacity building and fundraising.

Responsibilities:

Membership and human resources:

  • Recruit, mobilize and manage members and volunteers
  • Maintain membership database on Giftworks
  • Consistent, clear communication with membership on GFC activities
  • Ensure opportunities for membership to guide program direction
  • Supervise summer GFC intern


Activities:

  • Community cafes and potlucks: Organize community dinners monthly from September - May, including logistics, promotions, volunteer management and ensuring safe food handling.
  • Veggie Van: Organize the weekly sale of vegetables July – September in West Broadway including promotions and volunteer management. Solicit crafters and others
    to increase vendors at market.
  • Good Food Boxes: Organize the distribution of 25 – 50 GF boxes monthly for members from October – March, including soliciting and receiving orders, liaising with distributor, managing volunteers to assemble the boxes and distribution.
  • Farm trips: Working with the Wiens shared farm to coordinate member trips to farm once weekly from late June – September.
  • Workshops: Work with membership to identify and develop 4 – 6 educational workshops throughout the year.
  • Special events: Coordinate GFC members to prepare and serve food at the Spring Clean Up and Snoball Winter Carnival. Organize the West Broadway Fall Supper
  • Communication: Regular communications with the membership on upcoming events and other activities via email, phone and postering. Ensure posters are created and distributed. Maintain GFC webpage

Program management

  • Implement evaluation framework, gather data for evaluation and compile reports as required.
  • Work with Executive Director to manage and oversee GFC budget and fundraising strategy. Provide draft language and budgets for proposals.

Support for community development / WBDC

  • Support WBDC staff team by attending staff meetings, helping out at WBDC events (ie spring clean up, AGM)
  • Representing WBDC at appropriate events


Qualifications and experience

  • Demonstrated experience in community development, volunteer management and working with people living in poverty
  • Knowledge and experience in food security and event organizing, including meal and kitchen management
  • Experience teaching food handling skills and organizing learning events
  • Experience in project management and budgeting
  • Experience working with people living in poverty, people with disabilities, people with mental health challenges
  • Pro-active leader, positive attitude, enjoys taking initiative, works well independently and in a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
     

Skills and certifications

  • Post-secondary education in relevant field (ie Bachelor of Arts, Community Development/ Community Economic Development, Social Work, Food handling)
  • Safe food handling and event management skills
  • Conflict resolution training and skills
  • Valid Driver’s license, food handler’s certificate, criminal record check, child abuse registry check, CPR/First Aid
  • Experience and knowledge with MS office, word, excel, outlook and Giftworks or database management


Hours and wage:

  • WBDC general hours are Monday to Friday, 9-5. Some evening and weekend work required.
  • 35 hours / week
  • Wage: $17 – $18 / hour, commiserate with skills and experience
  • Start Date: As soon as possible
