The Community Economic Development Institute of the Shannon School of Business is pleased to organize another multidisciplinary conference on Community Innovation & Social Enterprise, building on the popularity of the 2015 conference, which attracted over 270 attendees from Canada and around the world.
Community-based ventures have been a strong part of the Canadian economy for more than a century and recent innovative practices have made the social enterprise sector a hot topic in national and international vistas. The conference brings together practitioners, researchers, and community organizations, from home and afar, to discuss current practices, challenges, and innovations in advancing social entrepreneurship and improving community livelihoods.
The 2017 conference will include a keynote address from Dr. Roy Suddaby, Professor and Francis G. Winspear Chair at the University of Victoria, Canada. Recognized as one of the world’s most influential researchers in organizational and social change, Dr. Suddaby has been elected to the Royal Society of Canada, he is among the Thomson Reuters group of academics who rank in the top one per cent of citations in their field, and he will share his insights with all of us at the conference.
Social entrepreneurs, directors, researchers, public policy makers, and anyone interested in community-based development, innovation, and entrepreneurship are invited to attend this popular conference. As a conference attendee, you will hear from and interact with practitioners and researchers on community innovation, social enterprise, place-based development, and their effect on community health and economic development.
Please save the conference dates above and come to connect in July. If you register by May 15, the cost of the conference is only $190+tax, and that includes the famous Surf & Turf dinner extravaganza (Cape Breton lobster & beef) by the Sydney harbour.
The conference includes the following themes:
- Community-based development
- Social Enterprises and Innovation
- Co-operatives and sustainable business models
- Place-based business
- Sustainable Aboriginal economies
