POSITION SUMMARY

The Administrative Assistant is BUILD’s primary point of contact, managing the front desk daily. This includes serving visitors and callers by greeting, welcoming, and directing them appropriately, as well as performing a variety of administrative and clerical duties.

Interim Executive Director

Spence Neighbourhood Association is looking to hire an Interim Executive Director. The Executive Director works with the members of Spence Neighbourhood to revitalize and renew the community. The Executive Director is responsible to the Board of Directors and for the overall management of the Spence Neighbourhood Association. This is a 18 month term position (May 2022-October 2023) with the possibility of extension or revisioning at the term's conclusion. Please note, limited travel may be required.

$28-$30 per hour on a bi-weekly schedule with hours paid as worked.

Just Transitions: Reimagining Social Movement Solidarities through and beyond Crises

Congress 2022 turns our attention to transitions, to the impact of a global pandemic that has taken so many lives and exposed and exacerbated inequities within and across nations—and the structural and systemic factors that produce and reproduce them. If the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted a world we thought we knew, it has also caused rethinking of values and priorities, posing challenging questions about what recovery will look like—and for whom. The pandemic has underlined intersecting forms of oppression and highlighted remarkable resilience and capacities among peoples determined to build back better, marching in solidarity and making sure that there will be “Nothing about us without us.” Social movements are leading the way to socio-economic, ecological, cultural, and racial justice promoting circular, caring, and solidarity economies. They should not be mistaken for, far less dismissed as, angry versions of populism. They are rather coalitions of creativity, caring, and concern.

Whether it is flooding, droughts, or wildfires, growing food insecurity, aggravated income gaps, growing gig economy, systemic racism and sexism, worsening housing precarity, social movement energies, creativity, and coalition have never been more needed. The co-operative movement has historically brought together diverse groups to meet their economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations, but we are also learning to be more vigilant in decentring whiteness. In the current crisis, this conference will discuss how the co-operative movement can engage in ethical alliances that do not elide difference but value diversity as collective empowerment to advance just transitions and a just recovery for all.

Leading Through Change: Community Leadership Program (Open Enrolment)

This unique learning program is specifically designed for individuals helping to manage and lead social change and community-focused organizations.  Through 6 sessions of supported and embodied learning that examine self-leadership, leading and understanding others, and leading within an organization, you can expect to emerge from the course energized, aligned, and equipped to harness your leadership to best effect. 

Community Leadership Program: 6 Day Intensive

This course is carefully designed to be impactful for leaders at all stages. Whether you are a senior, middle, or new manager, it is always invaluable to pause to reflect on and deepen your leadership practice in a supportive learning environment.  

Learning Objectives: 

  1.  Module 1 (14 hours): Leading and Understanding Myself
    Becoming a more self-aware and confident leader, build on current skills and experience to gain greater clarity and insight into your leadership style and strengths so you can have a greater impact on your work.
  2.  Module 2 (14 hours): Leading and Understanding Others
    Enhance and build key senior leadership skills to engage and lead people so you can all contribute and thrive professionally, meet the challenge of growing an organization and increase your impact. 
  3.  Module 3 (14 hours): Leading within my Organization
    Be more prepared for the opportunities and challenges that being a leader presents, build essential skills of a change leader, learn to develop teams and build team resilience, learn to lead through change and transition and expertly communicate through courageous conversations. 

Accreditation:  This program offers the opportunity to achieve the ILM Award in Leadership accreditation.  A certificate will be awarded upon completion of the program. 

When: 9am - 4pm ET on Thursdays (biweekly) from April 7 - June 16, 2022 (6 days in total)

Limited Capacity: Please note that the course will be capped at 20 learners to ensure each participant has a high quality, engaging and impactful experience.
