GALA 2012

Mark your calendar for Friday, November 30th, 2012.  On Co-op has moved its traditional Co-op Conference and Gala out of Co-op Week this year so that co-ops can use the time for their own celebrations...We have also seperated the conference and gala into distinct events!

On Friday, November 30th, we'll all get together for a fantastic Gala party and celebration of all things co-op, credit union and IYC. This year's gala will take place at the Teatro Conference & Event Centre in Milton, Ontario from 5pm to Midnight. 

We are planning an exciting evening celebration, including a cocktail reception, a three-course plated meal, Spirit of IYC Award ceremony, live auction and raffle draws, and new this year... live entertainment and dancing. It's definitely a night you won't want to miss! 
Online registration will begin September 1st. Reserve your seat or corporate table, as there is a 200 person capacity for this years banquet/awards ceremony!

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition is holding a 2-day symposium to reflect and exchange ideas on the progress that has been made towards creating Healthy Communities in Ontario. Walking tours, key-note addresses, panel presentations and dialogue will be mixed with social interaction, good food and entertainment. Participants will have the opportunity to explore examples of community initiatives that integrate multiple dimensions. Participants will come away with new ideas, renewed vigor and an expanded network of community building.

The History and Potential of the Living Wage Movement: The B.C. Experience, featuring Seth Klein, Director of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives–BC.

Friday, October 12th, 8:30-4:30 pm - Full-day workshop

What does it take to make a living wage?
What role can governments play in ensuring a living wage?
How can businesses get engaged in the goal of paying a living wage?
What can we learn from Canadian experiences with living wage campaigns?
 
The workshop will draw on real-life examples of living wage successes and it will provide space for participants to consider what a living wage could mean in the context of reducing income inequality in Ontario.

Social innovation has no end point. We do not find the permanent solution to the complex problems that face society and our environment. Thus, we strive to increase our understanding of and our capacity to respond to such problems in continuously innovative ways.
 
Come and hear Dr. Frances Westley, best-selling co-author of Getting to Maybe: How the World is Changed, share new insights into understanding complexity and transformative change, and the critical dimensions of “maybe.” We will explore:
  • The importance of resilience concepts―strategies for both increasing and decreasing pockets of resilience within our social systems
  • The potential of social innovation design labs for supporting system change
  • The connective role of institutional entrepreneurs and their relationship to the inventiveness of social entrepreneurs
