Is your non-profit social enterprise looking for an opportunity to grow?

Whether you’re looking to purchase new equipment, hire staff or grow your inventory, the Mixed Capital Opportunities Fund (Mixed Cap) will support the expansion of early stage, high growth non-profit social enterprises by providing a hybrid form of capital. This innovative collaboration between the Toronto Enterprise Fund (TEF) and Alterna Savings provides an opportunity to learn how to leverage grants and will make financing more accessible to social enterprises.

Mixed Cap is funded by the Province of Ontario and United Way Toronto & York Region (through a gift from the Polar Foundation), with all loan financing coming from Alterna Savings. Through the Mixed Cap application process you will be able to apply for between $10,000 and $30,000 in total investment, split equally between a loan and a grant.

Learn more about the components of the hybrid grant as well as have the opportunity to ask questions about applicant eligibility and how to apply.

An Introduction to Co-op Housing Management

chf canada9am to 4:30pm
Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, Victoria Room (2nd flr)
108 Chestnut Street

Managing a housing co-op is different from managing other types of rental housing. You still have to pay the bills, fill vacancies and keep the property in good repair. But as a co-op manager, you’re working for a democratically controlled organization. You have to help the board and members govern the co-op. You also need to understand the laws unique to co-op housing and the program rules that are part of the co-op’s funding arrangements with government.

Register for An Introduction to Co-op Housing Management

Registration closes March 14, 2017 or when course is full
Payment can only be made by cheque

An Introduction to Co-operative Housing Management will offer a lively introduction to the unique features of co-op housing management. Materials have been updated to reflect current best practices, and any relevant changes to legislation.

At the session you will get:

  • two days’ of management training, delivered by some of the co-op sector’s most experienced educators
  • a chance to ask questions, discuss issues and do case studies
  • ideas and inspiration from your peers
  • a reference binder filled with useful information
  • a good grounding in the basics every co-op manager needs to do the best job possible.

This workshop has been designed for new managers or people preparing to work for a housing co-op in Ontario. It is also a good resource for co-op managers looking to refresh their training or new service manager staff.

Equity in the food system: how what we are building and what we are fighting are inseparable in resistance

grapesAs the Northeast coordinates to build a regional food system, a central focus is on racial equity. In communities all across the region, groups are working on food justice. In this webinar, we will hear from 2 organizers: Isa Mujahid (CTCORE-Organize Now!, Bridgeport CT) and Heather Foran (community organizer, Portland ME). Through their grassroots efforts in their communities, Heather and Isa both are actively transforming the New England food system and raising and reflecting on struggles, challenges and questions to guide future work. This webinar creates space to share some of the questions and reflections.

Register for the Equity in the food system webinar

Join the New England Grassroots Environment Fund to hear more about their efforts to engage community, their questions and challenges and practical perspectives to support the emergence and continued viability of a New England food system that is a resilient driver of healthy food for all, racial equity, sustainable farming and fishing and thriving communities. As we pull in examples from groups like Cooperation Jackson, this webinar focuses on some of the questions and opportunities local organizers are grappling with, invites participants to share in the conversation and ideally has us all bring back questions to our own efforts about how our collective work integrates concepts of social justice and racial equity.
