This conference will be of particular interest to practitioners, educators, policy makers and students of community development who are interested in the exchange of good practice information and research. The purpose of the conference is also to facilitate networking among community development practitioners and organizations in Nova Scotia and Canada, with the North American Community Development Society, and in other parts of the world.

The International Association of Community Development (IACD) bi-annual global conference was held this past year in Hong Kong and included delegates from 14 countries. In Hong Kong, it became clear that there is significant momentum building for a global community development network. The 2008 Conference in Wolfville, NS is intended to be more of a regional gathering although given the huge interest to date from other countries, it will definitely have an international flare.

The conference also provides an opportunity to build on other regional/national CD forums, such as the Celebrating Communities Conference which was held in Sydney this past September, especially in relation to exchanging good practice information among community developers. The local organizers are also excited about the opportunity to facilitate connections between social and economic development practitioners and to make a link with other like-minded community development workers from around the world.
