Learn the three basic responsibilities and the three legal duties of non-profit boards. Understand the essential and important differences between "Governance" and "Operations" activities. Discover how the board creates its own "unique" effective and meaningful model of governance. Also included are legal liability, risk management, insurance issues and written guidelines for policies, procedures, by-laws, and constitutional change.

What will you learn?:

Understanding the specific roles of the board, management and staff. Based on the government report, "Improving Governance and Accountability in Canada's Voluntary Sector" and the Corporations Act the specific areas covered are:

  1. Mission, Values and Vision,
  2. Transparency and Communication, Structures,
  3. The Board's Understanding of its Role,
  4. Fiscal Responsibility,
  5. Overseeing of Human Resources,
  6. Assessment and Control Systems, and
  7. Planning for Succession and Diversity.

Certificates will be issued to individuals who complete all 4 workshops.
