The Ontario We Want

The Ontario Social Economy Roundtable (OSER) in collaboration with the National Summit Steering Committee is pleased to invite you to “The Ontario We Want” – Next Steps to a People-centred Economy on May 20th, 2010.

This discussion and information sharing session will unite a diverse group of key stakeholders to draft a concrete action plan for achieving our vision of “The Ontario We Want” – a provincial people-centred economy. As a key stakeholder in the Social Economy in Ontario, we encourage your participation in this event.

Another key aim of the event is to ensure that the Ontario perspectives from the non-profit, co-operative, and social economy sectors are reflected in the issue papers for the 2010 National Summit on a People-Centred Economy in Ottawa from May 30th to June 1st. We will be providing a series of workshops, facilitated by the authors of the summit papers, to discuss those related to social enterprise: Finance and Investment with Jessica Notwell and Tim Draimin, Enterprise Development with John Anderson, and Organizing the Social Economy Marketplace with David LePage, as well as Local Revitalization with Mike Toye. There will also be a Francophone workshop that incorporates three of the summit papers: Strengthening the Movement, International, and Enterprise Development and will be facilitated by Ethel Côté.

After the workshops, we will reconvene to identify Ontario’s key priorities (3-4) in moving toward a people-centred economy. We will then break into smaller groups that target these key priorities to come up with specific action plans for each. Your experience and expertise will provide valuable input to this process. By the end of the day, we will draft a concrete action plan for achieving our vision of a people-centred economy in Ontario.

The event is being held in conjunction with OSER and the National Summit Steering Committee and will take place at Hart House at the University of Toronto (7 Hart House Circle, Toronto) in the Debates Room (see agenda below). For more information on the National Summit, please visit http://www.ccednet-rcdec.ca/summit.

Travel subsidies will be available on a first come first served basis for those travelling to Toronto from out of town.

If you are not able to attend on May 20th, please consider sending a colleague to the meeting to represent your organization.

OSER would like to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for making this event possible.
