Reuben Garang was born in what is now the Southern Sudan. He fled during the civil war and spent many years in refugee camps in Kenya. Since coming to Canada, Garang has volunteered at Winnipeg Harvest, completed his Bachelor’s degree and is working on his Master’s. For this project, Garang talked to African immigrants and refugees to determine what they need to make life a success in Canada.

Lyna Hart is the Home and Community Care Coordinator for the Southeast Resource Development Council Corp. and a Board Member of Winnipeg Harvest. In this PowerPoint presentation, Hart links First Nations Creation stories with the nutrition found in traditional foods hunted or gathered and eaten or used medicinally for centuries by First Nations people.

Evelyn Forget is a Professor in the Community Health Sciences Department of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. Forget will present her findings on the Manitoba Minimum Income project, or Mincome, carried out in Dauphin from 1974 to 1978. Wayne Simpson, a Professor of Economics at the University of Manitoba, will respond to Forget’s presentation.
