The Women’s Voices Project is a volunteer-based project which aims to:
- Enhance the existing leadership skills of community women by providing training, supports, and helping them connect to a mentor at another community organization doing work relative to each woman’s interest and/or values.
- Work with mentors at other community organizations to increase the recruitment and retention of community women on their boards, councils, committees, and other involved volunteer positions.
Project leaders provide ongoing support for the mentees in the form of a $40/month honourarium, childcare $, bus tickets, and 1-on-1 check-ins and referrals.
Following 6 days of leadership training, with a focus on self-care, community awareness, communication, and decision making in the end of August and early September, women will be placed with a mentor. Together, with The Women’s Voices Coordinator, they will set goals, keep a volunteer log, and engage in a meaningful volunteer experience that may include but is not limited to attending board, committee, or advisory council meetings, and participating in educational and/or community events for approximately 3-4 month from September to April.
The deadline for mentee application is August 15th, however, we will be accepting mentors from community organizations until the end of September - or until all 17 women have a mentor.
All women are welcome to participate in this project.
