Public policy matters to all of us, to all of our work, and to our communities and everyone in them. Policy is a statement of values and priorities. Given that fact, it is helpful to understand what policy actually is and how we can work together through effective practices to achieve policy change that will support our goals of building stronger and fairer local economies, reducing poverty and homelessness, and creating more sustainable communities. This interactive session will also look at the member‐led model of the Canadian CED Network – Manitoba and how it has achieved success in advancing policy priorities over the last few years.
Issues:
What does policy really mean, what are the processes involved, why does it matter to me, my work or communities and how can I/we influence policy changes?
On September 19th, Brendan Reimer, the Regional Coordinator for Canadian Community Economic Development Network based in Winnipeg will present an overview on the issue of policy. Brendan is part of the Social Enterprise Council of Canada, CCEDNet’s National Policy Council, and has spent nearly 10 years working to advance member policy priorities locally. Brendan is an educator, mobilizer, and advocate for governments to create policies that will enable communities to take action on building stronger and fairer local economies, reduce poverty and homelessness, and create more sustainable communities.
