OACFDC’s 20th Annual Conference

You are here

Date:
24 September, 2013 to 26 September, 2013

The 2013 Conference of the Ontario Association of Community Futures Development Corporations will be held at the Holiday Inn in Sarnia, actually located in Point Edward, a small community on the scenic St. Clair River surrounded on three sides by Sarnia. Opening ceremonies will be on Tuesday, September 24, followed by two full days of workshops and speakers on Wednesday and Thursday, September 25 and 26. Our hosts will be the Sarnia-Lambton Business Development Corporation.

As well as attending the OACFDC’s 20th Annual Conference, it will be well worth the trip to see the many interesting attractions of Lambton County. The county has an abundance of golf courses; in fact, the Holiday Inn boasts a 9-hole course right on the property. Close by is the Point Edward Casino. Travel up the lakeshore from Sarnia to Grand Bend and you will see Lambton’s beautiful sandy beaches, where Lake Huron sunsets have been named among the best in the world by National Geographic.

The hard packed sandy beach at Ipperwash is unique as it supports car traffic and literally, waterfront parking. The Kettle & Stony Point First Nation is home to unusual perfectly spherical rocks, called “kettles”, found in the shale beds along the shore. In the heart of Lambton County are Petrolia and Oil Springs – home of the world’s first commercial Oil Well in 1858. The Oil Museum of Canada and Petrolia Discovery explain the area’s proud oil heritage, which spawned Sarnia’s petro-chemical industries.
