You can run but you can’t hide; everyone from your local government, community group, or the parent’s committee at school seems to be hosting a community engagement.

Community engagement is used to draw in the experience and expertise of others, usually to inform and improve a process or decision. But in an age of diverse communities and competing interests, what does community engagement look like? How does one go about it? And more important – how do you know if you are doing it well?

Spend a half day in discussion and activities to explore these questions and others. Learn and practice some community engagement techniques, and develop confidence to successfully and meaningfully connect with community.

Workshop objectives:

Understand what is community engagement – and its various shapes and sizes;
Engage hands-on with community engagement tools and techniques;
Brainstorm ways to translate information gathered into action; and
Learn from each other.

Who should attend?

Anyone from grassroots organizations or private public and non-profit sectors who communicate and connect with the public.

FACILITATOR

Erin Huck works with Health in Common, a Winnipeg-based non-profit planning and evaluation group dedicated to engaging the input and ideas of individuals and communities. As a community planner, Erin is often on the ground with communities and organizations across Manitoba, leading discussions with groups large and small. Truly happy when working across sectors and disciplines, Erin applies practical tools and techniques to help move groups towards concrete, defined goals. Having worked with communities and organizations across Canada in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, she brings over a decade of facilitation experience and degrees in communication and city planning to the mix.
