Are you interested in employee ownership as a means of exit or as a way to increase your company’s social impact and value?
Employee ownership plans (specifically Employee Share Ownership Plans or ESOPs) allow eligible employees to purchase shares in their employer’s company, with or without financial assistance. There is increasing interest in ESOPs from a social perspective, because this form of business ownership offers employees access to capital assets that increase as the company’s value rises–an important benefit in a time of rapidly increasing income inequality around the world.

This form of ownership can be a big win-win for employees and companies. Independent studies in the US, Canada, and the UK have shown that ESOP companies enjoy higher growth rates, higher net profit margins, higher productivity, higher returns on equity invested, and higher return on capital employed.
Workshop participants will explore employee ownership with some of Toronto’s top experts. Co-hosted by B Lab, ESOP Association of Canada, ESOP Builders Inc., Gardiner Miller Arnold LLP, Kalex Valuations, the School for Social Entrepreneurs, and the Shared Enterprise Institute, we will help you understand how employee-owned businesses manage growth, retain talent, and prepare for succession. By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
- Articulate the Social and Business Case for employee ownership
- Understand how to introduce employee ownership into a business
- Outline how employee ownership can help increase revenue, engage the community, and deepen relationships with suppliers.
