Working in diverse communities requires strategies for community engagement that are inclusive of all people. How do we ensure that our programs are welcoming and engaging? How do we recognize barriers to participation and what can we do to address this? This interactive and discussion based workshop will encourage participants to share their challenges around community engagement and present some practical tools for developing more inclusive community programming.

Learning Objectives:

  • Share challenges you face regarding community engagement and identify participatory models applicable to your community.
  • Develop tools to build on your existing community engagement strategies within your organization.
  • Gain knowledge to identify barriers in your programs so you can begin to produce a more culturally appropriate model of community engagement.

FACILITATOR:

Levi A. Foy is a two-spirit member of Couchiching First Nation who has lived and worked in Winnipeg’s inner city community for the past three years. He was one of the founding members of the Like That @ Sunshine House collective, and has worked with Winnipeg’s homeless population in several different capacities.
