United Way’s Learning Centre is pleased to partner with Rochelle Greaves and Roxanne Tackie of Story Point Consulting to bring you the workshop, Cultivating Long-Term Relationships: Donor Stewardship 101. This interactive workshop is best suited for volunteers and staff of nonprofits who are new to fundraising or have not received formal fundraising training, and have an active role in their organization’s fundraising activities, including:

  • Executive directors
  • Board members
  • Program staff
  • Development staff
  • Fundraising committee members

This half-day workshop will present best practices in developing long-term relationships with donors. We will share best practices in stewarding lasting relationships with donors and discuss how segmenting donors can help maximize staff efficiency.

  • Develop specific strategies to acknowledge, report to, engage, and recognize donors.
  • Manage donor preferences and staff time through segmentation.
  • Create a basic stewardship plan for both top donors and smaller donors.

About the Facilitators

Rochelle Greaves, Director Analytics & Strategy

Rochelle Greaves has worked for over a decade as an analytics professional. She spent the majority of her career working for two major financial institutions in Toronto where she developed a strong technical skill set. With a B.A. in Mathematics from York University in Ontario, she has excellent knowledge of statistical packages and business analytics tools such as SAS, Hadoop and Microsoft office. She has used her technical knowledge to help businesses measure key metrics and trends. In her former role as a Manager of MIS (Management Information Systems) and Analytics at Scotiabank she provided analysis of the Secured Lending portfolio to support strategic and tactical decision-making for Senior Management, while acting as a subject matter expert for Real Estate Secured Lending reporting, analytics and data solutions.

Rochelle has used her skills to create large efficiencies for the companies that she has worked for, reducing report production times, and automating procedures thereby significantly decreasing the time required to complete tasks.

Currently, as the co-founder of Story Point Consulting, Rochelle continues to use her skills to help small nonprofits increase their fundraising capacity and revenue.

Roxanne Tackie, Director Creative Writing & Strategy

Roxanne Tackie holds a B.Comm (Honours) degree from the University of Manitoba and has over 10 years experience in the non-profit sector. In her former role as Executive Director of the St. James-Assiniboia 55+ Centre, Roxanne led the day-to-day operations of the Centre, and was responsible for all fundraising, including grant writing, sponsorship solicitation, creating and chairing a donor relations committee, developing and implementing a stewardship plan and reporting on the impact of donations. Roxanne’s grant writing and relationship building allowed the Centre to secure over $250,000 towards the Centre’s capital campaign in under one year. In her role with the Advancement and Donor Relations team at the University of Manitoba,

Roxanne’s work included identifying prospects, developing and implementing stewardship plans, and reporting on the impact of donations. Roxanne’s team won an Award of Excellence in 2016 for contributions to the University’s ambitious $500 million campaign.

In addition to her paid employment, Roxanne has served as a volunteer with several organizations including The United Way Winnipeg, Recreation Connections Manitoba, and Osteoporosis Canada. She has also worked with her sister Rochelle as a fundraising consultant, providing recommendations to improve donor solicitation strategies and donor stewardship.

Working alongside her sister as co-founder of Story Point Consulting, Roxanne helps staff and volunteers of small nonprofits to communicate the stories of the work they are doing.
