The vision of the Quality of Life CHALLENGE is for a sustainable quality of life for everyone in BC's Capital Region. Imagine....a vibrant and sustainable region where everyone lives in a safe and decent home and is able to care for themselves, their families and their community.
The Quality of Life CHALLENGE is diverse community partners working together to generate enduring solutions that prevent and reduce poverty.
Building on initiatives, relationships and learnings from Phase One, the strategic areas of work include:
Increasing sustainable incomes, reducing costs of living and creating learning opportunities (see Appendix A: Draft Strategic Community Plan).
The CHALLENGE achieves goals in each of the strategic areas based on the theory that enduring change can occur in communities where there is: shared leadership, community ownership and relationships, awareness and learning, inclusion of people who are experiencing the issues first hand, monitoring and measuring change, and recognition.
The Leadership Roundtable of the CHALLENGE is composed of representatives of organizations from business, government, non-profit, education and low income households. The Leadership Roundtable is responsible for the strategic direction and priorities of this comprehensive community initiative.
The CHALLENGE is a partner in Vibrant Communities Canada, a pan-Canadian urban initiative committed to poverty reduction through comprehensive, multi-sector, community-led initiatives.
The Community Council is one of the collaborating partners and also holds legal responsibility for the CHALLENGE. All CHALLENGE staff are employees of the Community Council.
