Project: “Advancing the Saskatchewan Co-operative Sector: A communications strategy”

Saskatchewan Co-operative Association (SCA) is a community service co-operative interested in initiating a social economy research project to assist community-based organizations, such as co-operatives with limited capacity, to develop a communications strategy. The outcome of this communications based research will enable SCA to develop a comprehensive communications strategy with and on behalf of co-operatives as community-based organizations. Specifically, the outcome of the research will enable SCA to:
- facilitate and communicate the policy development and advancement needs of the co-operative sector
- enable co-operatives in Saskatchewan to build a communications strategy based on understanding the needs of co-operative members for services, programs and activities, including co-operative education and youth programming
- enhance the knowledge and understanding of the contributions co-operatives make to communities
- research successful marketing and communications strategies and build communications strategies (and success measures) for co-operative development.
Duties will include:
- meet with SCA and CUISR supervisor to determine specific goals and outcomes
- develop methodology and collection tools for gathering and assessing information
- collect, gather and analyze the information about the program
- provide a final, publicly-relevant, publishable report for the partner organization and CUISR Resource Centre regarding the research findings.
Qualifications include:
- undergraduate student in a relevant field of study (e.g. Marketing)
- ability to develop qualitative and quantitative data collection tools
- experience in developing communication strategies
- strong oral and written communication skills
- ability to work independently, following timelines and meeting project expectations and deadlines.
Eligibility: This position is open to all current and prospective students at the University of Saskatchewan.
Term: 10-15 hours per week during the school term (February to April) and approximately 25-30 hours per week during the spring/summer period (May to August). Project timeframe may be flexible to accommodate needs of researcher and partner organizations.
Award: Approximately $7,800 including benefits (13.7%) paid over the term of study in a monthly salary.
