POSITION:  CCPA–MB Office Manager

The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives – Manitoba (CCPA-MB) is a progressive non-profit organization with a mandate to conduct social and economic research from a social justice perspective.   We are currently seeking applicants for the position of Office Manager.  This is a .7 position with the possibility of expanding to full-time in the future.  CCPA-MB is a unionized workplace.  We offer a competitive salary and an excellent benefit package. 

JOB DESCRIPTION
The office manager is responsible for the smooth operations of the CCPA-MB office. The Office Manger is responsible for all matters related to office management, including: book keeping, member services and development (including database management), event organizing, fundraising and research dissemination. Performing these tasks requires proven experience in public relations, database maintenance, computer use and basic computer maintenance (mostly MACs), document layout, and basic book keeping skills. The office manager must have strong verbal and written communication skills, be able to work to deadline and pay attention to detail.  This position frequently requires problem-solving skills and a capacity for multi-tasking.  The Office Manager must have the ability to take initiative and work independently. 

1. QUALIFICATIONS AND TECHNICAL SKILLS
The skills, expertise and experience required to perform this job successfully include:
 

Overall abilities and knowledge
Ability to work cooperatively in a small office environment
Effective time management, strong organization skills
Ability to identify the need for and implement new office systems
Knowledge of the progressive labour and community sectors in MB is an asset
Ability to work independently and take direction from others, as well as an appreciation of when to seek direction. 

2.   Computer Skills
Excellent knowledge of MS Word (including mail merge functions), MS Excel, internet and email applications
Ability to create and update budget spreadsheets using MS Excel
An ability to work comfortably in a Mac environment
Experience with database management and maintenance. Basic database design experience (this person does not need to be a database designer by profession, but must have a working understanding of basic database design such as creating fields, calculations, layouts, reports, etc).
Experience with File Maker and InDesign is desirable but not essential
Ability to handle day-to-day issues with network server (or willingness to learn)

3.   Communication SkillsStrong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to deal with the public and media in a friendly, courteous, and competent manner. 

4.   Book keeping and Administrative Skills
Record keeping and basic book keeping skills, including ability to oversee invoicing system and daily financial transactions
Ability to understand and ensure accuracy of monthly financial statements produced by CCPA national office.
Proven experience with office administration.
