WEST BROADWAY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (WBDC)
WBDC is a non-for-profit organization working to coordinate neighbourhood renewal inour inner-city community. WBDC works with residents and stakeholders toward
environmentally sustainable, social and economic revitalization of the West Broadway
neighbourhood.
The West Broadway Development Corporation's Urban Green team will support West
the "Greening the Way" program to improve access to greenspaces in our inner-city
neighbourhood. The focus of the Urban Greenteam this summer will be to improve the
community composting sites and provide information and education to residents on
composting techniques. The Greenteam will also help maintain existing greenspaces.
Responsibilities:
o Maintain existing greenspaces (ie mowing, weeding, planting etc...)
o Work with the Greenspace Development Coordinator and area stakeholders to
develop a composting education program
o Deliver educational workshops on composting education with area residents
o Support neighbourhood revitalization through maintaining public spaces, litter
patrol, addressing graffiti etc...
Qualifications:
o Knowledge of gardening, composting
o Experience with community gardening, landscaping, community
programming/organising
o Knowledge of inner city issues and experience working with people of diverse
backgrounds
o Problem-solving skills
o Excellent oral and written communication skills
o Can work individually as well as a team
o Ages 16 - 24
Wage and hours of work:
o $10 / hour May 5th to August 15th, daytime Monday - Friday. Some evenings and
weekends may be required.
Preference will be given to youth living in the West Broadway neighbourhood.
