St Francis Xavier University's Extension Department has an eighty year tradition of social engagement in North Eastern Nova Scotia and beyond. Demographic and economic shifts with the backdrop of globalisation currently present considerable challenges to the resilience and sustainability of rural and small town life. It is around these challenges that the Extension Department in conjunction with the Coady International Institute is developing leadership education and knowledge for action programming.
