The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) is the self-government representative that promotes the political, social, cultural, and economic interests and rights of the Manitoba Metis Community. In addition, the MMF delivers programs and services to our community including: child and family services; justice; housing; youth; education; human resources; and natural resources.

MMF seeks to fill one full-time position located at the Thompson Regional Office - Thompson, Manitoba.

Position: Metis Community Liaison Worker

Reporting to the Metis Community Liaison Department Director, the Liaison Worker's prime objective is to enhance the Metis resources within the region, through direct outreach to the community. The incumbent will assist the child welfare delivery system(s) of the area by actively seeking out ideal Metis foster/adoption resources and other resources as may be identified. The Liaison Worker will assist in the development and implementation of the resources by developing strategies and detailed action plans designed to ensure culturally sensitive delivery of services and programs to Metis people by social service agencies. The Liaison Worker is expected to be involved in accessing the maximum level of service for Metis families that is available to the general public through direct advocacy and negotiation. In addition, he/she will interact with various levels of officials responsible for delivering main mainstream services to families in the region.

Skills and Qualifications:
Completion of College or other program related to social services
Experience in conducting needs assessments is essential
Experience in designing social services and monitoring caseloads is essential
Detailed knowledge of relevant federal and provincial legislation
Knowledge of Metis Heritage and Culture
The ability to speak the Michif, Saulteaux, Cree and/or French language is an asset
Superior written and oral communication skills, excellent inter-personal, teamwork, problem-solving, analytical and organizational skills
Working knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Outlook
Must provide an acceptable criminal records check
