Kwantlen Polytechnic University is seeking a Regional Literacy Liaison Officer to facilitate implementation of the provincial Literacy Assessment and Articulation initiative for the Kwantlen region. In this leadership role, you will work with a variety of partners in the region to develop a coherent and coordinated adult literacy system. This involves facilitating the development of literacy networks, building the capacity of the community to deliver and sustain local literacy programs and services, and raising community awareness of literacy as a vital social and economic issue.
Your strong consultation, facilitation and team-building skills as well as the ability to establish relationships with community organizations in the Kwantlen region will be vital to your success in this role as you work with community, regional and provincial partners to ensure adult learners have access to literacy programs appropriate to their needs. You will also work closely with Deans and other stakeholders in Kwantlen departments responsible for delivery of literacy programs.
Expertise in community-based needs assessment as well as research, evaluation and critical thinking abilities are required. The successful applicant will also demonstrate success in writing proposal and policies such as scholarly papers, grant proposals and community based plans.
Responsibilities:
- You will use your knowledge, experience and sensitivity related to literacy issues and under-represented and at-risk adult learners in this provincial initiative as well as expertise and training in community development practice, including the provision of support and skills to citizens groups and non-profit agencies.
Qualifications:
- Minimum qualification requirements include a Masters Degree in adult education or related discipline (PhD preferred) plus five to seven (5-7) years' recent related experience working in adult, post-secondary and/or the K-12 education systems and in community development.
