Manitoba Eco-Network - Editorial Services, Eco-Journal
The Manitoba Eco-Network is an umbrella for environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGO's) throughout the province. The Eco-Network, through the wide range of services it offers, acts as a hub for local information and action bringing together people from all over the province who care about our shared environment.
Our Mission: Manitoba Eco-Network promotes positive environmental action by connecting people and groups in our communities. We educate, we facilitate, we celebrate!
The Eco-Journal: Five times a year the Manitoba Eco-Network publishes the Eco-Journal, a unique publication reporting on environmental news and views from a Manitoba perspective. Generally the stories and issues covered in the Eco-Journal are examined more extensively than they would be by mainstream media outlets. The Eco-Journal is also a vehicle for Manitoba Eco-Network member organizations to raise awareness of their events, activities, issues of concern and volunteer or employment opportunities. The Eco-Journal has a print circulation of 900 and is also distributed electronically to subscribers in PDF format. A portion of the Eco-Journal's production costs are covered through paid advertising.
The annual budget for the Eco-Journal is:
$5000.00 for editorial/management
$2000.00 for layout/design
$4000.00 for printing and mailing
The Eco-Journal has been a mainstay communication product for the Manitoba Eco-Network since 1990. Until 2007, Eco-Journal experienced minor changes in layout and design, editorial direction and management. Last year, after a review by Manitoba Eco-Network Steering Committee's Communication Sub-committee the Eco-Journal went through a redesign and editorial restructuring in order to be a more effective communication and outreach product - even more topical, even more relevant to member groups and more appealing to a broader audience. We feel that this effort has been successful. This summer, the new Editor of Eco-Journal had to submit his resignation for personal reasons, (the new designer will be maintaining her contract). Therefore, we are currently seeking an individual to fill the position of Editor.
Editor Job Description:
The Eco-Journal is seeking a qualified and experienced writer/editor to lead the ongoing development of an editorial agenda for the publication, liaise and communicate with member groups to identify and solicit contributions, research and write relevant and topical content on environmental issues impacting all regions of our province, and ensure editorial accuracy and consistency throughout every edition of the Eco-Journal. As well, working together with the designer, the Editor/Manager will be responsible for the electronic publication of the Eco-Journal.
