Roots of Empathy is an award winning, evidence‐based classroom program that has shown dramatic effect in reducing levels of aggression among schoolchildren by raising social/emotional competence and increasing empathy. Our mission is to build caring, peaceful and civil societies through the development of empathy in children and adults.
We are looking for a dynamic individual to act as Provincial Coordinator in British Columbia. Reporting to the Director of Program Delivery, the Provincial Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the community development required to grow the program in all regions of the province, maintaining and sustaining current programs and representing the Roots of Empathy in BC.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Planning and coordinating the community development required to grow the program;
  • Working with diverse communities in urban, rural and remote regions of the province to initiate, support and sustain ROE programs;
  • Providing guidance and support to community members to ensure administrative set up and high quality implementation and maintenance of the program each school year;
  • Writing reports that demonstrate provincial program reach and outcomes for a variety of audiences including government funders and the ROE Board of Directors
  • Acting as the senior ROE representative in BC and bringing forward provincial needs/issues to ROE National Office;
  • Presenting and promoting ROE to various audiences, as required.

Qualifications and Requirements include:

  • Post‐secondary degree or equivalent experience;
  • Proven track record in grassroots, community development models of program implementation and delivery;
  • Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a National Office team located outside the province;
  • Self‐motivated; creative problem solving skills;
  • Strong diplomatic skills and ability to work and speak with a variety of audiences/stakeholders;
  • Solid understanding of the social and educational context of BC First Nations;
  • Experience in working with the province's public education system;
  • Extensive knowledge of the province, its geography and regional distinctions;
  • Ability to work with, engage and support volunteers;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills;
  • A vehicle and the ability to travel;
  • Experience as a ROE Facilitator or Mentor is an asset
  • Ability to communicate in French is a definite asset.
