Youth Intern: Computer Lab Operations and Programming

The Burrows Resource Centre is currently looking to hire a Youth Intern (someone between the ages of 16 and 29 years of age) for either a full-time or part-time position, supporting the operations and programming out of our eleven terminal computer lab.

Job Description

The key role of a Youth Intern working at the Burrows Resource Centre, is to inform community members (including, youth, seniors and those of varying ability) about the potential of the Internet and to provide basic training on the Internet and related technologies.

Computer Training

  • Train community members on general computer and Internet use
  • Plan and organize ‘Cyber-Camps' for specific target audiences
  • Listen to the interests of community members to determine what topics of interest to address.
  • Experience with "Open Office" freeware.

Promotion of Community Events

  • Create posters and pamphlets; organize presentations for specific target groups (i.e. seniors, parents, children, etc.) to generate interest in programs.
  • Encourage local media (i.e. community newspapers) to run stories about community activities.
  • Approach businesses and local organizations to create partnerships.
  • Attend local community events to share information and encourage participation.

Technical Support

  • General maintenance of community computers (i.e. anti-virus and system updates)
  • Installation of new software
  • Troubleshoot computers, printers, etc.
  • Familiar with "Open Office" freeware.
