Communications Specialist

Well-respected nationally and internationally for its work in community economic development and the social economy, the CCCR is reconfiguring its structure and staff in order to focus on community resilience, local food system transformation, community-based carbon reduction, and community enterprises.

This will entail a significant upgrade in communications for two initiatives: a) a university-practitioner research partnership known as the B.C.-Alberta Social Economy Research Alliance, which the CCCR co-ordinates, and b) the CCCR itself, whose current suite of communications - a national magazine (Making Waves), e-bulletin, and website and on-line bookstore - is no longer adequate.

Specifically CCCR requires a person with:

  • Strong knowledge of the integration of print and internet media for the purpose of creating an effective multi-media communications strategy targeted at a variety of constituencies.
  • Strong knowledge of web design to co-ordinate a redesign of our corporate website (www.cedworks.com) and on-line bookstore/archive and management of these systems.
  • Ability and experience in the management of computer and internet technology contractors.
  • Solid editing and writing skills, and a facility with Microsoft Word and MS Publisher for basic desktop publishing.
  • Ability to consult with staff and a range of collaborators across Canada to popularize and synthesize research and practice-based analysis and place it into a wide variety of media.
  • An ability to work from a home office. (Someone based in British Columbia is preferred, but we are willing to consider candidates based in other provinces depending on qualifications.)

If you want an environment where you can leverage your skills for positive social change and action, this is a unique opportunity.

This is a full-time 2-year position, starting in April 2009 with potential for renewal. Familiarity with open-source software for database and content management systems and French language ability are definite assets but not prerequisites. Salary range $40,000 - $45,000 plus an excellent benefit package.

Interested parties should submit to jasonboyce@shaw.ca (subject line "CCCR Communications Posting") a covering letter, resume, and an example of their technical writing/editing relating to community change or development.

Deadline: February 25, 2009

CCCR expresses its thanks to all candidates. Only persons short-listed for an interview will be contacted.
