Ndinawemaaganag Endaawaad Inc.
Ndinawe is seeking applicants for the positions of full-time youth care workers for our Second Stage House.
Applicants will be required to work varying shifts including weekends, evenings and overnights.
The worker's primary objectives are to assess the circumstances and to work with community youth to determine their expressed needs in a supportive capacity. This may mean, community youth with varying needs of risks of violence, threatening, or attempting suicide, poor physical or mental health, substance use, involvement in criminal activities and/or sexual exploitation. The worker must be committed to a culturally relevant mode of community service delivery.
Qualifications:
- A combination of appropriate employment history, volunteer and life experiences will be considered.
- Reliability is a must.
- Knowledge of youth development and the developmental tasks at different ages and stages is required.
- Awareness of community resources and contact persons is required.
- Demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written.
- Demonstrated ability to establish relationships with young people is needed.
- "Street Smarts" and an awareness of the street lifestyle and its potential impacts for affected children, youth and families are essential to this position.
- Needs a working knowledge both of the effects of abuse in all its forms on the lives of young people and ways to appropriately intervene.
- Acts as a role model and teacher, in accordance with our culture, for all young people who come to Ndinawe. Worker needs a willingness to learn about and practice traditional customs, ways and ceremonies.
- Demonstrated ability to be creative and innovative in developing strategies to connect with and provide service to children and youth who are engaged with Ndinawe services.
- Knowledge of a First Nations language and/or dialect is a definite asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license is required.
