OBJECTIVE: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Research Associate is responsible for providing comprehensive community development support as well as research and planning services to the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg in consultation with professional staff, committee volunteers and partners.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Senior Associate position is designated to provide the capacity to:
Monitor and analyze social issues and needs, critique existing social policy and formulate new policy options for consideration;
Evaluate existing social policies, programs and services;
Conceptualize, design and implement plans based on research and consultation in accordance with the policies and priorities established by the Board of Directors;
Work extensively with demographic sources of information and other primary data bases;
Facilitate the marketing of Social Planning Council strategic priorities utilizing research findings and analysis developed through publications, workshops, consultations and presentations;
Work with committee members to conceptualize, design and implement action plans;
Share and maintain an interest in working with other colleagues locally and nationally on joint projects;
Perform such other planning and research tasks as assigned by the Executive Director, and,
Supervise students and interns in placement at SPC.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors of Social Work or equivalent with at least 2 years in policy experience;
- Social justice perspective;
- Comprehensive communication and writing skills;
- Knowledge of and experience in community development;
- Familiarity with Winnipeg community issues;
- Ability to speak both official languages an asset;
- Supervision experience an asset;
- Sensitivity to issues of diversity and inclusion.
