The secretary will also help organize and promote events sponsored by the Office such as workshops and lectures; assist in the recruiting of volunteers, students and part-time staff; create and maintain an OCBR database, directory and website; set up and maintain a filing system and public reception area and maintain departmental accounts.
QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent secretarial, organizational, communication and computer skills. Experience using databases, spreadsheets, word processing and content management systems is required (e.g. MS Office and MS Access). Experience with website maintenance and desktop publishing would be considered an asset. The ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and as a team member; the ability to create, compose, and edit written materials; and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with community members, faculty, staff, and donors are all essential skills.
Strong intercultural communication skills, knowledge of community based research, community-university partnerships and the administrative systems and procedures at UVIC would also be considered assets.
