INTERNSHIP QUALIFICATIONS
This program is funded by Service Canada and its intention is to give out-of-school post-graduate youth (15-30 years) who have a career focus in CED a relevant six-month work experience placement. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or legally entitled to work in Canada. This placement is fully subsidized by the Canadian CED Network. This position will provide an hourly wage of $15 with an average work week of 37.5 hours.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Regional Coordinator (Prairies & Northern Territories), the Policy & Research Assistant is responsible for researching and writing policies regarding community economic development and the social economy and for providing administrative and strategic support to the Policy Council of the Canadian CED Network and its members.
The Policy/Research Assistant is expected to:
Provide assistance to CCEDNet’s Policy Council, including its mandate to support the policy development initiatives of Canadian CED Network members
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Policy/Research Assistant is responsible for:
- Performing scans of public policy developments and decisions that have an impact on community economic development and the social economy
- Conducting research on policy issues regarding community economic development and the social economy
- Writing policy documents
- Assisting with policy development funding applications
- Carry out policy-related research, promotion and awareness-raising initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education in a related field of study with emphasis in research
- Demonstrated research and writing skills
- Excellent oral and written skills
- Proficiency in managing websites
- Experience working in non-profits or community-based organisations
- Experience working in an office environment
- Knowledge of community economic development theory and practice
- Adaptable to a new fast-paced work environment
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills
- Positive attitude
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to work in a team and independently
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Bilingualism (English, French) is an asset
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Position based at CCEDNet’s head office in Winnipeg, MB
- Requires extensive computer use
- 37.5 hours per week - involves overtime work at peak periods
- Salary is $15 an hour
- Some travel may be required
