Red River CD/CED Students Looking for Practicum Placements
February, 2010
Dear Community Partners,
We are starting to prepare for the April practicum for the RRC Community Development/Community Economic Development Program. We know there are a number or groups doing exciting work in the community and we hope to partner with you to provide a CD/CED student with a Practicum placement for one month this April.
THANKS to organizations like you this has proved to be a good partnership: students in the Community Development/ Community Economic Development Program gain solid practical experience to go with their theoretical understanding of CD/CED, and you have some extra help for a month.
Our students are a diverse group who are developing a solid understanding of the driving values and principles of CD/CED and many are mature students with extensive work experience. We hope that you will consider helping someone gain hands on community practice that will compliment their classroom learning.
Students are asked to identify agencies where they would like to be placed but we also invite you to think of that project idea that remains undone, work that could use some extra support, or activities that can always use an extra hand……Let us help you achieve your goals while our students reach theirs.
To help you think of an appropriate job description for a Red River College CD/CED Student we have summarized what they have learned to date at the end of this memo.
Time Frame: April 5 2010 to April 30 for 4 days a week about 7 hours a day.
Contact: Marianne Cerilli mcerilli@rrc.mb.ca
Exceptions: Students spend half day a week at RRC discussing what they are learning.
Agency Expectations:
Provide student with an orientation and necessary training
Provide student with a job description and clear instructions about how to complete
Provide student with adequate supervision and support to enable maximum learning
Meet with Placement Instructor (either Lynn Ann Lauriault or Michel Allard) twice during placement, once about mid-way and once at the end to review students progress
Include students in as many experiences as would be reasonable so they get a good understanding of the depth and breadth of the agency’s work

1st Year Student
a) monitor and understand what the placement agency does and why
b) gain exposure to a variety of tasks and assist with a specific project
2nd Year Student
