DANIEL MCINTYRE / ST. MATTHEWS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION (DMSMCA)
DMSMCA is a non-profit community renewal organization. We work with residents and stakeholders towards social, cultural, economic and environmentally sustainable renewal and revitalization of the Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews neighbourhoods.
Job Objectives and Responsibilities:
1. Community Events – To organise and manage the DMSMCA spring and summer community events at the Orioles Community Centre, in association with local residents and housing stakeholder and to carry out evaluations of the implementation of these plans.
Tasks will include:
- planning, organizing and putting on the events;
- promotion and outreach to the community and community partner organizations;
- approaching other organizations for sponsorship and donations;
- organizing and facilitating committee meetings;
- liaising with organizing committee; recruiting community volunteers;
- managing community volunteers.
2. Communications and Outreach – To maintain DMSMCA’s current outreach resources.
Tasks will include:
- Producing the DMSMCA Newsletter – Summer edition (compiling, writing and editing);
- Updating the DMSMCA Website, on a regular basis (no HTML required);
- Networking with various community partners to support the work of DMSMCA in the community.
Qualification, Knowledge and Experience:
- Background in community based planning and community initiatives implementation;
- Event planning and organizing;
- Project Management;
- Community development approaches and practices;
- Strong organisational skills;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong collaboration and networking skills;
- Public consultation methods;
- Report writing;
- Ability to work independently;
- Understanding and appreciation of inner city communities; and
- Computer capability
- Some knowledge of desk top publishing /design etc. (posters, flyers, newsletter)
- Knowledge and experience in Community Development approaches and practices
- Experience working with volunteers
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
Assets:
- Knowledge of the Daniel McIntyre St. Matthews Community (preference given to DM/SM residents);
- Valid driver’s license and occasional access to a vehicle; and
- Knowledge of CED principles.
Other Information:
- Must be between the ages 16-30.

Wage: $11.00 / hour
Hours of Work:
Up to 32 hours/week; some evening and weekend hours required. This is a 13 week term position.
