Job summary:
The North End Food Security/Greening Project (NEFS/GP) provides opportunities for low-income families living in the Point Douglas community area, to improve their ability to provide sustainable nutritious food for their families through food security and greening activities. The NEFS Greening Assistant will assist the North End Security and Greening Coordinator in the planning and implementation of these opportunities.
Task Description:
- North End Greening
- Assist in the planning, supporting, implementing, facilitating and coordinating of current and potential greening initiatives in the North End.
- Liaise with approximately agencies, neighbourhood associations, and schools to build on the North End Food Security greening inventory, and facilitate partnerships between groups and neighbourhoods.
- Office Administration
- Assist with daily office tasks that include answering the phone, filing and updating databases, photocopying, newsletter and flyer production and workshop evaluation documentation
- Food Security Workshops
- Assist in the planning of a Manitoba Plant workshop, and promotion of greening workshops through flyers and emails
- Other tasks as assigned
The successful applicant will have/be:
- Strong-interest in Food Security & Environmental sustainability issues
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Good organizational skills with proven attention to detail
- Good interpersonal skills and enjoy working with the public
- Good level of computer knowledge, Internet, Word and Excel
- Be self motivated and a team player
- Able to multitask and meet deadlines
- Valid driver’s license and occasional access to a vehicle is considered an assets
The job position is part of CreateAction, the Canadian CED Network Work Experience Program, funded by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
Participants must also meet the following the criteria:
- between the ages of 15 and 30 inclusively at the time of selection
- a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- legally entitled to work in Canada
- legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial and/or territorial legislation and regulations
- out-of-school
- a post-secondary college or university graduate
- not receiving Employment Insurance benefits
- can demonstrate a lack of labour market attachment to field of study (under-employed or unemployed)
- can demonstrate that working in the field of community economic development is a career goal
- has not previously participated in a Career Focus work experience
