The Saskatchewan Co-operative Association (SCA) is currently accepting applications for a CreateAction Work Experience Program Intern position. The focus of this six-month placement will be on planning and co-ordination of a regional Community Economic Development event with a focus on co-operatives.
This job position is part of CreateAction, the Canadian CED Network Work Experience Program, funded by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
Work Term: October 4, 2010 to March 18, 2010
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and submit funding proposals to potential conference funders/sponsors
- Create and manage a Regional Event budget in partnership with Internship supervisor
- Plan and coordinate all aspects of the Regional Event Program
- Event marketing (online and off-line) for the conference to local groups, organizations, and government agencies
- Manage conference registration and plan on-site logistics for conference events
- Plan for all on-site logistics at the event itself including the arrangement of all food, breaks, and refreshments as well as agreements with selected venue
- Compose required reports and meet identified deadlines for local conference funders
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong experience with the following:
- Excellent organization abilities, time management skills and the ability to multitask
- The ability to work independently as well as be part of a team
- Strong communication skills – both written and oral
- Proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications is necessary and Adobe InDesign and Contribute would be beneficial
- Public speaking and facilitation ability
- Maturity and professionalism, energy and enthusiasm Knowledge of the co-operative sector in Saskatchewan
- Passion for community economic development and co-operatives
Criteria / Qualifications:
- Between the ages of 15 & 30 inclusively at the time of selection
- A Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration & Refugee Protection Act
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial and/or territorial legislation & regulations
- Not registered in school, & must have a post-secondary college or university undergraduate degree
- Not receiving Employment Insurance benefits
- Can demonstrate a lack of labour market attachment to field of study (under-employed or unemployed)
- Can demonstrate that working in the field of community economic development is a career goal
- Has not previously participated in a Career Focus work experience placement
