The Network of Inner City Community Services Society (NICCSS) is accepting applications for a CreateAction Work Experience Program Intern position to start immediately. CreateAction is a program of the Canadian CED Network, funded by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. We are looking for an individual to assist in the development of local individuals receiving work experience, to communicate with Network members and other government and business partners the mission and goals of the Asset Disposal Social Enterprise, and to develop partnerships and initiatives through community process. As part of this exciting opportunity, you will:
- Work with community, business and government partners in the initiative to develop local Inner City retail recycling and social enterprise opportunities
- Research and work with community to begin development on a model for donations for resale to residents/nonprofits/small businesses
- Assist in the training of local volunteers and work experience students
- Gain experience in warehouse (restocking and transportation management) and retail (day to
day store operations) - Evaluate partnerships between community organizations, businesses multiple levels of
government and citizens - Document, evaluate and create strategies for long term community benefit of our Asset
Disposal program
Your skills will include: marketing, promotion, relationship building with both community members as
well as business and agency representatives, ability to budget and computer skills, energy and
enthusiasm.
As a CreateAction intern you will: Be part of a wider network of CreateAction interns from
across the country. As part of your position you will participate in peer learning activities, including
those organized by the Canadian CED Network including national conference calls and an expense paid trip to Winnipeg Manitoba October 21-23, 2010 to attend a National training.
Term: immediately to March 18, 2011
Criteria:
- Between the ages of 15 and 30 inclusively at the time of selection
- A Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial and/or territorial legislation and regulations
- Out-of-school
- A post-secondary college or university graduate
- Not receiving Employment Insurance benefits
- Can demonstrate a lack of labour market attachment to field of study (under-employed or unemployed)
- Can demonstrate that working in the field of community economic development is a career goal
- Has not previously participated in a Career Focus work experience placement
- Able to start immediately
