Summary of the Event
The West Broadway Snoball Winter Carnival Committee is selecting a Coordinator to oversee the 2010 West Broadway Snoball. The Snoball is a community celebration of winter, where families, children and community members participate in healthy winter activities, good food and magical fun times. It is a family-friendly afternoon event that fosters community pride and togetherness while combating the winter 'blues.'
The participation rate is over 250 youth and adults, 20 key volunteers and is coordinated by a committee comprised of six organizations. The date is Saturday January 22, 2011.
Responsibilities
Fundraising and Budget:
- Applying for and securing funding from Great West Life, Jenny Gerbasi, Rob Altemeyer and others
- Receiving in kind donations from retail locations
- Ensuring project stays within budget
- Ensuring reporting done to funders upon completion of the project.
Coordination:
- Organizing and Chairing the Snoball Committee
- Coordinating 4 - 5 different organizations to participate in the event
- Organizing a site plan
- Securing proper permits
- Ensuring proper supplies are available
- Work with Volunteer Coordinator to identify volunteer needs
- Event management and coordination of clean-up on the day of Snoball
Promotions:
- Coordinate promotions of the event, including: ensuring that postering is done, emails sent out, flyers sent to homes, and presentations made at local schools
- Ensuring press release sent out
Evaluation:
- Create evaluations plan for the event and ensure it is carried out
- Compiling copies of all documentation and receipts into the 'Snoball Binder' for future years
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in community development, conflict mediation, administration, event planning and management, fundraising
- Experience organizing committees, chairing meetings, taking minutes
- Experience supervising others
- Experience and training in conflict mediation, strong interpersonal skills
- Pro-active leader, positive attitude, enjoys taking initiative, works well independently and in a team
- Good at problem-solving
- Strong time management skills
- Excellent oral and written work
- Proven experience delivering results on time and on budget
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, keyboarding
Compensation & Supervision
This is a volunteer position with an honourarium of $1,800.
The Coordinator reports to the Spring Clean Up Committee, with representation from: Art City, Broadway Neighbourhood Centre, Resource Assistance for Youth, West Broadway Development Corporation, West Broadway Youth Outreach and Wolseley Family Place.
