COUNSELLOR
ABORIGINAL STUDENT SERVICES AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS DEPARTMENT
Duties:
Red River College’s School of Indigenous Education, Aboriginal Student Support & Community Relations, at the Notre Dame Campus, requires a counsellor to provide a variety of services which can assist students with personal, academic, vocational and financial issues which may impact on success at the College. This includes case management functions and the development and implementation of educational support services for students of Aboriginal ancestry. The focus of the position is to provide services which are responsive to the needs of Aboriginal students enrolled or planning to enroll in College programs.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a Masters of Social Work. Candidates must have several years of experience in a counselling environment including case management responsibilities. Experience working in or closely within a post-secondary educational setting is an asset. Candidates must demonstrate ability in personal and career counselling as well as an understanding of the Aboriginal culture, community, supports and services. Experience in the provision of mental health services and crisis intervention is essential. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff and external resources. Strong organizational skills and the ability to react appropriately in stressful situations are essential. As candidates will be required to develop and deliver relevant workshops, presentation skills are essential. Competency in Microsoft Office is required. Preference will be given to candidates of Aboriginal ancestry.
