Communications and Outreach Intern - Organic Food Council of Manitoba

The Organic Food Council of Manitoba is seeking a Communications and Outreach Intern. This eight month term position is 35 hours per week, $15.50/hr starting January 4, 2011 to August 19, 2011.
Job Description
- Assist with the development of an OFCM-COG communications strategy
- General communications: website updates, social media updates, letters to members and partners, news releases, email and voicemail maintenance
- E-newsletter and calendar of events
- New Farmer Challenge communications (public and media outreach)
- Development of promotional materials
- Presentations and event displays
- Community consultations
- Internal meeting communications
- Other duties as assigned
The successful applicant will have/be:
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of oral and written communications and strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with proven attention to detail
- Strong time management skills and ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills and enjoys working with the public
- Ability to exercise independent judgment
- Proven web and social networking capabilities
- The ability to travel and stand at public displays or make public presentations
- High level of computer knowledge, Internet, Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint
- Be self motivated and a team player
- Knowledge of food security, rural issues, and sustainable agriculture
- Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends for displays and events
- Access to a vehicle is considered an asset
Participants must also meet the following the criteria:
- Between the ages of 15 and 30 inclusively at the time of selection
- A Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial and/or territorial legislation and regulations
- Out of school
- A post-secondary college or university graduate
- Not receiving Employment Insurance benefits
- Can demonstrate a lack of labour market attachment to field of study (under-employed or unemployed)
- Can demonstrate that working in the field of communications is a career goal\
- Has not previously participated in a Career Focus work experience placement
